It Takes a Village to Light a Village
It is with great pleasure and relief to report that we have successfully completed our first solar light distribution to earthquake survivors in Haiti.
Rebuilding and recovery in Haiti is a slow process with hundreds of thousands of families displaced and living in camps. The situation on the ground is complicated and immense and played an integral role in the challenge of the BoGo distribution implementation. We are thankful to have had the help of many partners to complete this distribution.
Fifty Lanterns would like to thank the American Refugee Committee, who arranged the logistics and more for the distribution in two of the camps they are managing, Camp Hope and Terran Acra; the generosity of the Alamy Co. in U.K. that enabled us to donate of 800 of our solar BoGo light flashlights to the people of Haiti; and Mark Bent of Sunnight Solar and the good folks at the Clinton Global Initiative for helping us coordinate logistics through the Haitian government.
Most of all, I want to thank you. Your generous donations and support are the energy that keeps Fifty Lanterns up and running. YOU are our most important partner—your contributions allow us to keep spreading life changing solar light.
To be able to help 800 families with clean solar light means so much to so many and our work in Haiti has only just begun. My hope for the near future is to be able to provide more lights to the thousands of families in need. There are several orphanages, refugee camps, clinics, and housing projects for the elderly that need our help of safe, clean, solar lighting.
